Classes

Do you ever worry you’re not teaching the “right” way?
Do you suffer from “Theory Imposter Syndrome?”

. . .
I never understood theory…until I needed to write it.
. . .
I was never taught how to teach…….until I had the opportunity to focus on teaching methods instead of just course content.
. . .
As a designer I didn’t understand what it meant to have my own research interests…and now I’ll never look back.
. . .

I love to pass multi-disciplinary inquisitiveness and methods on teaching and scholarship on to others through workshops that use a combination of curiosity, confidence, and irreverence to mine current practice and “game changer” scholarship across fields.

Workshops will run based on interest - registration will be confirmed before the start date. Payments will be due after registration is confirmed. A limited number of sliding scale spaces are available upon request.

Costume Syllabus Clinic
Summer 2023

This workshop provides the space, structure, and support to create, revise, revamp, and re-envision your relationship to syllabi. The workshop is structured around current pedagogy in backwards course design, scaffolded assignments, and student-centered class planning, which can be applied to the development of any course. Group discussions will focus on developing critical costume methodologies, envisioning costume history with a global perspective, and other ways that costume pedagogy needs to adapt to a more inclusive, contemporary framework that meets the needs of current students, in both content and method.

Teaching is harder in isolation. Camaraderie, deadlines, homework, and accountability partners and turn a tedious summer burden into a joyful place to reinvest in your own teaching goals outside of the stress of the semester.

Possible 2023 schedule: 2:00-5:00pm (ET)
June 8, June 15, June 22, July 27 + 1-on-1 “office hours” TBD
$600-300 sliding scale
